Stands as a prominent research organization under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It carries out research aimed at boosting productivity and usage of tropical and subtropical horticultural plants including fruits, vegetables, flowers, medicinal & aromatic plants, and mushrooms. The institute serves as a hub of knowledge and operates as a training center for enhancing scientific expertise in contemporary horticultural production techniques. It collaborates with national and international organizations to fulfill these goals.

Patented Technology

License Agreement between ICAR-IIHR and Arihant Group of Industries. Arihant Group of Industries has signed an agreement with Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR) to manufacture innovative products that deliver exceptional results for farmers. While crop yield has been enhanced during the agricultural revolution (GR), ensuring long-term sustainability has been elusive. Methods used for productivity during GR have caused soil degradation and several environmental and health issues. The extensive use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides has led to significant damage to agro-ecosystems. Pesticides now pose serious problems in these ecosystems. In this scenario, biopesticides have emerged as a sustainable solution for eco-friendly farming. Globally, biopesticides are gaining attention due to their eco-friendly nature and precise targeting. However, in developing countries like India, biopesticide usage remains relatively low compared to conventional chemical pesticides. Though the Indian government promotes biopesticides through various agricultural schemes, challenges persist at the grassroots level. Limited adoption and reduced farmer interest in sustainable agriculture products continue to be concerns. Production, formulation, and application challenges further raise doubts about the long-term sustainability of biopesticides. The aim of this review is to highlight emerging biocontrol trends in India and discuss the technological aspects required for sustainable use of these products in Indian agriculture and the market.
