Bacillus thuringiensis Israelensis (BTI) is a strain of Bacillus thuringiensis that specifically targets mosquito larvae and other dipteran insects. Recognized as an effective, eco-friendly mosquito control solution, Bti produces Cry toxins that disrupt the digestive systems of mosquito larvae, ultimately causing their death.

Target Pests

  1. Mosquito larvae
  2. Black fly larvae
  3. Fungus gnat larvae

How BTI Works

  1. Ingestion: Mosquito larvae consume Bti spores present in their aquatic habitats, such as ponds, puddles, or stagnant water.
  2. Activation: In the larvae’s alkaline gut, Bti spores activate and release Cry toxins.
  3. Toxin Binding: Cry toxins bind to specific receptors on gut cells, triggering pore formation in cell membranes.
  4. Gut Paralysis: Disrupted gut cells cause paralysis, preventing larvae from feeding.
  5. Death: Larvae die from starvation and digestive failure within days.

1 X 107 CFU/ML

  1. Targeted Larval Control: This method specifically targets mosquito and fly larvae, disrupting their life cycle and preventing them from maturing into adults.
  2. Selectivity and Safety: Unlike traditional insecticides, this solution is formulated to affect only mosquito and fly larvae, minimizing harm to beneficial insects and non-target species that are crucial for ecological balance.
  3. Environmental Safety: It poses no significant risks to humans, mammals, birds, fish, or aquatic life, offering an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional insecticides.
  4. Disease Prevention: By reducing mosquito populations, this method helps lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika virus, and West Nile virus.
  5. Integrated Pest Management (IPM): This method is best used as part of a comprehensive mosquito control strategy, which may also include source reduction, habitat modification, and personal protective measures.

Recommended Application Guidelines:

  1. Application: Apply Bti directly to standing water where mosquito larvae are present.
  2. Timing: Treat water when larvae are in early developmental stages for maximum effectiveness.
  3. Water pH: Effective across a range of water pH levels; avoid mixing with highly alkaline water.

Recommended Use Sites:

  1. Stagnant water bodies
  2. Ponds and marshes
  3. Other mosquito breeding grounds

Recommended Application Methods:

  1. Foliar sprays
  2. Pre-planting seed treatments
  3. Soil incorporation during planting
  4. Post-pruning treatments
  5. Irrigation or root drench applications
